Weekly rentals: $10,000/week (off-peak). |
This rental was just as advertised-a luxurious main house and a guest house at the other end of the pool. That made it nice for our three generations of family-the younger generation (mostly in their 20s) stayed in the lower level kids room of the main house, where they could make all the noise they wanted without disturbing the older generations on the rest of the property. The bedrooms in the main house are all on the second floor, so it was nice and quiet up there, and the view from the master bedroom was spectacular! Everything was very clean upon our arrival. The pool table in the main house was especially enjoyed by all, including my 93-year-old dad-who knew he was a pool shark?! The two pools were a nice feature, as was the semi-private beach (too bad the blustery weather brought so much seaweed, though). We used the outside grills a couple times, and the outdoor seating worked great for our large crowd. The kitchen was a decent size, and the two refrigerators were a definite plus. A couple of issues that should be mentioned-there is no bathroom in the lower level where the kids room is, and the wifi only seems to work in the main house, not in the guest house. Some of the features of the rental were a bit confusing, like the humidifier settings, the pool temp. settings, and the newfangled cooktop (we had to look at the manual to figure out what all the settings were). The owner, Bronia, was very helpful, though, and responded to all our questions and complaints fairly quickly, and was very accommodating to our needs. We would recommend this place to anyone with a large group-it is a beautiful, quiet getaway in a lovely town. Oh, and we did definitely recommend a night out at the restaurant that easily accommodated our large group-The Tides-fantastic food and service-one of the best steaks I have ever had! The only reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five is because we did have to make quite a few calls to the owner about some maintenance issues--it really is a fantastic place, and if those issues are handled it will definitely rate five stars.
We rented Sur La Mer for one week in January for our daughter's wedding. It was very hard to find a beach rental home that would allow us to host a wedding; however, the homeowner of Sur La Mer was very generous and open-minded in allowing us to host our event here. We had to visit the venue a few times prior to our event date, and the homeowner was very accommodating in meeting our needs. The two separate houses were exactly what we needed for housing the bride and groom's separate families (it was a vacation for all of us!). The amenities in this house are exceptional, just like staying in a five-star hotel. Two fridges and two dishwashers make the kitchen very functional. The basement (if you can call it that, it's more like a luxury kids suite!) was perfect for four of our children (including two adult children) to sleep in. For our wedding, we had about 100 guests, and this venue worked out PERFECTLY! We had a clear-roofed tent installed on the grass in the backyard (since weather is always unpredictable). There was more than enough space for 100 chairs and an altar. After the ceremony, the wedding coordinator and catering staff transformed the tented space into our dinner area while the guests were busy in the front of the house for cocktail hour. There was plenty of room in the back yard for 10 large tables (72" round tables, each seating 10-12 people) as well as a bride/groom table, etc. (you could actually fit at least 13 large tables). We had one bar set up on the front pavered area, and another one on the back deck. We hung market lights all around the pavered area out front, from palm tree to palm tree (which was so beautiful with the lush landscaping!), and we also hung market lights inside the tent in the back yard. The band set up on the front pavers during cocktail hour. We were planning on having our reception, after dinner, out on the front pavers, but during dinner it started to rain. The band moved their entire setup into the indoor pool room, up on the balcony, which worked out perfectly! Acoustics were fine, and everyone enjoyed dancing around the indoor pool. If you are thinking about hosting a wedding (or any event) at Sur La Mer, I would highly recommend it. Everything about this venue worked out perfectly for us.
