Smoking is not allowed in the house, garage, porches, deck, or approaching areas. A smoking area is designated by the fire pit.
Pets are not allowed anywhere on the grounds. Acorn Lodge is a pet-allergy-free zone. Also, Acorn Lodge is a nature preserve and we must protect the wildlife.
Acorn Lodge is not responsible for any accidents, injuries or illnesses that occur while on the premises or its facilities. The Lodge is not responsible for the loss or theft of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of Acorn Lodge or others whom they invite to use the premises.
Keep the property and all furnishings in good order.
Use appliances only for their intended uses.
Parking:
Parking is limited. Vehicles are to be parked in the garage, or on or alongside the driveway. Parking on the road is illegal here.
Local ordinances prohibit outside bands, DJs, and amplified music or sound of any kind.
Housekeeping:
A: There is no daily housekeeping service. There is, however, weekly housekeeping on a flexible schedule for your convenience.
B: Bed linens and bath towels are included at Acorn Lodge,. Towel warmers are installed in the bathrooms to help towels dry after use.
Jacuzzi:
No children permitted in the Jacuzzi without adult supervision.
Sauna:
No children permitted in the sauna at any time without adult supervision. When using the sauna, remember there is a certain health risk associated with saunas.
Use at your own risk: the sauna heater and rocks are extremely hot. Make sure that everyone is aware of this.
Caution: saunas can be dangerous if you use alcohol. Please follow the guidelines that are both posted at the entrance to the sauna and in the Acorn Lodge Welcome Book.
The firepit is a beautiful setting. Please do not burn trash or refuse. Firewood is provided at the site. An adult is required to be present at the firepit at all times when the fire is burning.
Water and Septic:
Acorn Lodge is in a rural location and therefore is on a well. If you ever experience a slight odor from the water be aware that it is harmless and will disappear momentarily. There is a water softener and several filters in the well water supply system. This is typical of all rural areas in Michigan.
The septic system is very effective; however, it will clog up if improper material is flushed. Do not flush anything other than toilet paper. No paper towel or feminine products should be flushed at anytime.
All utilities are included in your stay at Acorn Lodge. Please be aware that it is easy to forget that the fire log is still burning and/or your curling iron is still plugged in. (Curling irons have been known to burn down houses.) These are not only wasteful but can also be dangerous. Be alert. Turn off what you’re not using.
Wi-Fi internet is provided, as well as DirecTV. Please, no downloading of video games and movies into your computers. This will deplete the service provided. Feel free to watch the TV movie channels provided. If you need to purchase a movie, please use your own credit card.
No fireworks may be stored or used at Acorn Lodge.
Weekly lawn service and snow removal as needed are provided.
Interruption of services:
If Acorn Lodge experiences a power outage which renders the Lodge temporarily uninhabitable, a refund will be given on a prorated basis until service is restored. Acorn Lodge has a backup generator that will automatically come on in the event of a power outage. You will not need to do anything except wait about ten seconds for the transition to be made. The generator will also sense when power is back on and will switch you back over to the grid at that time. During the time the generator is on the sauna will not be available due to its high power usage.
Before walking the trails through the woods, familiarize yourself with potential hazards detailed in the River Walk book. Be sure you know what poison ivy and other noxious plants look like. Realize that the Flint River is the back border (about 1000’ through the woods), and that any river poses a potential hazard to children. We recommend that all children be supervised by an adult whenever leaving the Lodge lawn, and especially anywhere near the river. Educate your children using the River Walk book as to the plants that might cause skin rash, as well as to water safety.
Bug spray can be found in the back coat room and along the trails. Please use it. During wet or rainy seasons bring your boots.
